The Style Piles

Packing can be so stressful sometimes, that is why I like to make piles of clothes for each day....I prefer the term style piles, so that way you know each day what you will pack and what outfit goes with what. Here are some of my style piles for Cabo. The first outfit is for relaxing poolside, the dress is thrifted and I can't wait to dive into the book The Help. The second outfit is ready for the beach. Although it is still summer weather on the central coast, fall is quickly approaching. I can't wait to layer sweaters with scarves and mix colors. I can't get enough of the rich fall colors. This week has started with getting bogged down with details. Hectic schedules mixed with the day to day busy life stuff left me with a headache......I was in dire need of some inspiration. Flipping through Vogue I was in awe of the photography by Tim Walker. Tim Walker is a very famous photographer for Vogue and I love his stylistic view from the lens. He has a romantic and whimsical way of viewing fashion.

Last Days of Summer

With September fast approaching I am already thinking of how I can incorporate some of my summer wardrobe into fall. I came up with this color story as a transitional color palette from August into September. I love the basic colors of navy, sand and caramel with the pop of orange. I plan on adding orange into my wardrobe for fall, check back next week when I post my must-haves for fall.

Happy belated fourth of July!! We spent the long weekend in Sacramento and San Francisco visiting my best friend and her husband. We went berry picking and filled up on blueberries and cherries. We made a berry crisp and had dinners on their roof! Most nights were spent bike riding and staying up late chatting. On the forth we drove to the city and went to a Giants game. Although the Giants lost, we were content eating our chocolate malts and soaking up the city. We ended the night in Little Italy with a wonderful dinner and an amazing fireworks show.

Sailing Inspiration

Lately I have been inspired by all things nautical. I love stripes in every color and the beautiful textures of the sailing ropes. I loved this dress and the simplicity of it mixed with the shiny gold cuff bracelet. I absolutely adore these black flats with gold detailing. Now that I have the perfect sailing outfit, where should I sail to?? My husband gets mad when I post stuff about sailing and outfits because realistically I am wearing a windbreaker and sneakers. However, in my mind, I would be wearing this outfit sailing off the Amalfi coast.

Spring Must Haves

I don't know about you but I am getting a little tired of all the jeans and sweaters lately and am looking forward to spring! A few must have's this year are a pair of classic trousers with a big cuff like the ones above from J.Crew! I love the 70's feel that is making a come back this Spring. The Anthropologie dress is nautical in stripes but pops an unexpected color of tea rose which is... oh so pretty! I also love the quirky twist on the pearl necklace mixed with chains.

Lazy Saturday Morning

It's no secret that my favorite indulgences is a french bakery here in town. Every Saturday morning you can find me there with a cup of coffee talking with girlfriends or with my husband. Renaud's has the best almond croissants, and vanilla lattes. Being there makes me dream of living in France where I could have croissants for every meal! Among other things I love is this adorable outift by Toast, the ankle boots are to die for! The clutch is from Etsy, handmade from an old french grain sack!

Suit It Up

I had a dear friend ask me how to update the traditional suit. Tired of blazers, wide-leg trousers and heels... she was looking for a twist on the modern day suit. I did a little research and found that there are small things you can do to tweak the suit to give it a hip feel and still look professional. The first picture shows a blazer worn open with a more casual unbuttoned blouse. A styling tip as simple as rolling up the sleeves and leaving a blouse a bit open gives more of a relaxed feel instead of feeling stuffy. The wide leg trouser pant has been replaced with a slimmer straight leg. This look creates clean lines. Notice the skinny belt and how they tied it under instead of using the belt loops, another great styling trick. Lastly when you are sick of pants, dress it up with a tailored dress. Remember to belt it and don't forget to bring the great accessories. Don't be afraid to pop some colors into your grey suit, add some fun yellow earrings. Spice up your button down blouse with layers of chains to give the office look a bit of an edge. Lastly this season's biggest look for fall is the tie up bootie. This darling shoe is comfortable and can be worn with skinny jeans and a tunic for casual Fridays! Hope this helps for all the ladies workin the 9-5 that need a refresh from the drab suit!

3rd Annual Fall Day

I have always loved the fall, so three years ago I decided to make up a holiday called "Fall Day". I try to always make Fall Day within the first two weeks of October. Each year I get excited about this holiday and think of new ways to expand upon it. This year I tried to make Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte from scratch. A bit tricky but tasted yummy. Fall day always includes a trip to the pumpkin patch and a run through the corn maze. My traditional dinner is creamy butternut squash pasta. I decorate the house with squash, pumpkins and gourds. I am always thinking of new harvest decor and stumbled upon some great ideas from Martha Stewart.

This June gloom has me thinking of warmer places I would like to be....like the Italian rivera. I am in love with this brightly embroidered clutch. Last week I was debating over color palettes and the overwhelming response was #3, but #5 was a close runner up. I haven't completely decided on these colors but thought I would pull together mini-inspiration. I love the use of the red artichokes mixed into the bouquet, it is a nice unexpected touch. I have always been a red person so adding touches of it in my wedding only seems natural! I also love the single leaf tied with twine on the dinner plates, I love the personal touch! It's all in the details and I can't wait to share all the details I have planned!

I feel like mint green is a color that often gets left out in my wardrobe, so I decided to go on a hunt of all things that inspire me with this color! Along the way I threw in some new trends that you will see in this upcoming season. The statement necklace was hugely popular last year but this year trends are taking a new spin on statement t-shirts. Forget your basic white tee, trade it in for a t-shirt that has some flair. You will see a lot of great different silhouettes for knits and more detailing on knits in which you don't need a statement necklace. Your outfit is already in your shirt. Take for instance crisp white tank in the picture with grey ruffles...throw on a pair of boyfriend denim and out the door you go, now that is easy outfitting!

If you haven't noticed blazers, jackets and stripes are taking over the runway for spring! Here is my take on some of the fabulous trends going on right now. I love the detailing of this jacket, the green is a nice in-between color for spring and the flower detail makes my heart swoon. The Michael Star tee is a great basic and makes for a lovely layering piece for any outfit. The boyfriend denim is a must for spring and brings together a casual outfit but still walking out the door pulled together! It may be raining outside, but it doesn't matter to me because spring is here and I am ready for the transition!

My friend Dianne just got back from Paris and says stripes are everywhere for spring and was excited to see how Anthropologoie interprets the new trend. Well needless to say they got the memo! I have been styling stripes for months, frankly I am starting to go cross-eyed looking at all of them. Yet they still find their way into my heart because I own 5 different types of striped shirts! Dianne no need to wait, they already ran with the trend!

This weekend has been a busy one! I got engaged! So sorry for the few posts I have been floating on a cloud! We decided to drive up highway 1 for some much needed R & R, I had thought of this weeks ago and didn't think twice about the day. We stopped in Cambria for tri-tip sandwiches and took pictures at Ragged Point. Tim gave me my first early birthday present and it was a travel coffee mug, and said we had to get going to the next location. I was wondering where the next location was since there is nothing from Ragged Point to Big Sur. Well we ended up driving to Big Sur and pulled into one of my favorite spots. A little rustic restaurant by the river. We had hot coco by the fire and then he told me to put it in the travel mug because we were going for a little walk. We walked down to the river where there was a bench and candles lit all around it. There he had me open a second present...a tripod, not exactly what I was expecting. He began to set it up and take pictures and I didn't know he hit record, as he began to give me my next present. The next present was a photo album of us from the last two years and the last page was paper clipped shut. Then he preceded to tell me some beautiful wonderful things that my heart will never forget and he opened the last present for me which was a long stemmed rose with a ring in it. The last pages were pictures of him asking my dad! Needless to say I said yes and am marrying the love of my life,my best friend,my encourager and supporter!

Most New Year's I have this high expectations of going to some fabulous chic party with a fabulous dress and yet that has still never happened. And that is exactly what I am going to do this year, all though there will be no sweats because we are going to Bill's Place, a dive karaoke bar. We will sing our way into 2010! Last weekend I went home to spend some much needed time with the family. On Friday my mom had a lovely work Christmas party at our house. I helped out with some of the details but was so blown away by the creativity of my mother. Not that I ever doubted it but she pulled off quite a classy work party. Here are some of her tips, she served butternut squash soup in vintage glasses, and mini pulled pork sandwiches and rosemary champagne spritzers. Of course the best part of hosting the party is decorating the house. A guest brought a gift (shown above) that spelled out Merry Christmas that she handmade! I love the gesture of a homemade gift as a hosting present! The evening was filled with laughs and great food and wine but I couldn't help but realize halfway through that in my generation we have somewhat lost the art of entertaining. I hope to bring it back, because nothing makes me heart full like a house full of people and good food. Hope you took away some great entertaining tips and I put the dress in there for good measure because every hostess needs to be the mostest!

What are you lovelies doing this weekend? baking....holiday parties.....getting cozy by the fire? Well Tim and I have decided that we are carrying on our tradition of seeing Christmas lights by following the Christmas trolley. Let me explain..there is about 9 trolleys that go around all of Santa Barbara showing people the Christmas lights and spreading Christmas cheer. It is a lovely idea but it costs $20 per person and you sit in a freezing cold trolley for an hour and a half. Realistically we would rather take that $40 and go to a nice dinner and that is exactly what we did. We found out where all the trolleys gathered and followed them throughout Santa Barbara in the comfort of Tim's car with heated seats and hot coco. It is quite festive all the houses are lit up and the owners come out and play music or simply wish everyone a Merry Christmas as the trolley goes by. Quite a few people were thrown off as they saw the BMW follow the trolley wherever it went and I hung out the window yelling Merry Christmas. After wards we decided to go back to our first date restaurant, Via Maestra 42 a quaint Italian restaurant. We enjoyed wine and pasta and soaked in the holiday cheer and chuckled to ourselves for we outsmarted the people on the trolley!

Thankful for Thanksgiving

Hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving...mine was exceptional. I loved having my family here with me and the Reinauers! Tim and me hosted thanksgiving which was intimidating at first but it turned out wonderfully. I loved having our families together and sitting by the fire and laughing at silly card games! We kicked off Thanksgiving with our 2nd annual turkey bowl then ate til we couldn't eat any more. Then we ended the night with a classic game of spoons and Good day Queen.

I have decided one can never have enough tights, in every color for every occasion. I love the unexpected pop color of tights under a dress! I have a wedding to go to in a couple of weeks and it is outside, so I am looking for the perfect pair of tights. When wearing tights you have to pick the right shoe and color, or else they come off "young" looking. I love tights with booties or a great ballet flight or boots if its cold!

One of my favorite things about the holidays is the anticipation of it all. My mom would start decorating the day after Thanksgiving and would pull out all the bulbs of paper whites and start planting them so they would be full bloom for Christmas. I always remember how pretty they looked and filled the house with the lovely fragrance. Fabulous, Fashionable and Fifty

I went to my mom's antique show, Remnants of the Past and couldn't help but be inspired by some of the fabulous women. These ladies knew how to rock out the fashion and they are over 50...I hope I look this good when I am 50! Starting off with Judi, pairing an ever so delicate cardigan with strands of pearls looking very pulled together and comfortable, very casual chic! Next Sidney incorporating this years biggest trend plaid with a classic trench, don't you love her hair?! Not to be bias but had to put my mama in here. She looks great with a classic tee with a twist of a ruffle neckline and a couple of pearls layered for an easy chic look. Way to go mama! Kriste is wearing another great look of a no closure cardigan and making it fancy with a couple of key statement layering necklaces. Who says you can't be 50 and fashionable! Hats off to you ladies for finding classic looks and not giving into Talbot's!

I only have one defintion for inspiration-Anthropologie. Working for Anthropologie is simply a place to be inspired. Before I worked there I came to be inspired and soak in the experience of every sense being stimulated. Now that I work on the visual team there I get to be a part of that magic and find out what it means to see art and things in life and bring inspiration out of it. Well the morning of Halloween we decided to change Tim's costume at the last minute. I found this fabulous multi-colored hat at a garage sale and instantly thought that Tim could be a flower instead of the bee keeper! We cut out the middle of the hat and put a bungee cord through it. We painted his face yellow, and bought a bright kelly green shirt and had quite the laugh over his costume! The party was a blast, complete with Tortilla soup which I made from scratch and a costume walk off! It was fun to see how many people got creative with their costumes! What did you do?

Annette picks inspiration from the fashion world or your own closet and designs one of a kind rooms based on your wardrobe tastes! I couldn't be more in love with the concept. My fashion taste could be described as classic, romantic and sometimes rugged hence the boots. But I always love pairing a dress with my boots to make it more feminine. This weekend I am going home to support my mom at her Remnants of the Past antique show! My mama is a very talented designer and loves to collect old treasures from all over the world. Her show is held at the Dana Powers barn in Nipomo. My mom has vendors that she hand selects to be in her show, and all her vendors have fabulous stuff. I have to tell you about my small love affair with my new shoes! I was not in the market for shoes, I have been ready to pack up my sandals and bring on the boots but I stumbled across the most adorable boutique lucialovesluigi, the staff was incredible helpful and welcoming. The store has lots of indie designers and old favorites like Nicole Miller and Paul & Joe. Anyways back to the shoes, I love the red stones and the small adorned gold jewel in the center. Scandinavian Inspired

I couldn't help but be inspired by my work's new apparel concept, gaining creative inspiration from Iceland and the Scandinavian ocean. The color palette is gray,purple and blues with pops of red. The look is layered, comfy and cozy. Rebecca Taylor was also inspired by Swedish fairy tales and incorporated that look in her fall 09 show at New York Fashion Week! I don't think I will be sporting the furry vest down state street but I do have my eyes set on the Marc Jacobs dress and cozy moccasins!

Fall Inspired by Devon Watkins featuring Anthropologie

A trip to the pumpkin patch inspired my inspiration board for today. On Sunday my boyfriend and I went to Lane Farms and indulged in the corn maze and stocked up on lovely pumpkins, and funky gourds. I couldn't help but pick out the perfect cozy outfit, a great knit sweater with big buttons and a pair of worn-in corduroys while sitting on this lovely couch burning this wonderful candle that makes the room smell of freshly baked pumpkin pie!
