Suit It Up

I had a dear friend ask me how to update the traditional suit. Tired of blazers, wide-leg trousers and heels... she was looking for a twist on the modern day suit. I did a little research and found that there are small things you can do to tweak the suit to give it a hip feel and still look professional. The first picture shows a blazer worn open with a more casual unbuttoned blouse. A styling tip as simple as rolling up the sleeves and leaving a blouse a bit open gives more of a relaxed feel instead of feeling stuffy. The wide leg trouser pant has been replaced with a slimmer straight leg. This look creates clean lines. Notice the skinny belt and how they tied it under instead of using the belt loops, another great styling trick. Lastly when you are sick of pants, dress it up with a tailored dress. Remember to belt it and don't forget to bring the great accessories. Don't be afraid to pop some colors into your grey suit, add some fun yellow earrings. Spice up your button down blouse with layers of chains to give the office look a bit of an edge. Lastly this season's biggest look for fall is the tie up bootie. This darling shoe is comfortable and can be worn with skinny jeans and a tunic for casual Fridays! Hope this helps for all the ladies workin the 9-5 that need a refresh from the drab suit!

3rd Annual Fall Day

I have always loved the fall, so three years ago I decided to make up a holiday called "Fall Day". I try to always make Fall Day within the first two weeks of October. Each year I get excited about this holiday and think of new ways to expand upon it. This year I tried to make Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte from scratch. A bit tricky but tasted yummy. Fall day always includes a trip to the pumpkin patch and a run through the corn maze. My traditional dinner is creamy butternut squash pasta. I decorate the house with squash, pumpkins and gourds. I am always thinking of new harvest decor and stumbled upon some great ideas from Martha Stewart.

This Season's Obsessions

alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485823759856146530" />

Here are a few things I have been obsessing over lately. A great stripe tee (J.Crew) A layering sweater that can transcend seasons. Wildflowers and wheat for a wedding bouquet and last but not least an amazing french chandelier. This whole picture is my inspiration for our bedroom. I love the softness of the grey wall and the boldness of the black urn topped off with something french!

Vacation Mode

This June gloom has me thinking of warmer places I would like to be....like the Italian rivera. I am in love with this brightly embroidered clutch. My philosophy lately has been to simplify my wardrobe. Going back to the basic of solids and dressing up an outfit with a funky clutch or statement necklace. No fuss dressing I like to call it. You look pulled together but somehow it feels effortless. When you are on vacation you don't want have to think about it, you just want to throw it on and go.....where are you vacationing this summer?

Treats Under $100

Lately I have been so discouraged with how expensive clothing is, maybe it's because I don't get the anthro discount any more and I am forced to pay full price for clothing! Well on my hunt for some new spring items I came across Spool 72, a rustic clothing line with cheap prices. Tank $38, earrings $34 and the cute clutch at $68

May Gray

I am not going to lie this May gray has put a damper in my mood and my wardrobe. Fashion tells me its spring but the fog is here to stay for Santa Barbara. My solution... white pants to feel springy and a cute long sleeve blouse paired with some great necklaces. Also a great bag can make any outfit feel pulled together! Don't you love these cozy blankets in a yummy spring color palette. What is your favorite part of Spring?

Wedding Inspiration

It has been awhile since I posted Wedding Wednesday, my life has been nothing less than chaotic!! However we have made great progress in some big decisions for the wedding. Catering is done, as well as dessert and centerpieces have been styled. Now the hunt begins for exotic herbs, old books and silver. I don't want to give it away but my mom and me are busy at work finding treasures and being inspired. I loved the wildness of this bouquet and the creative napkin wrapped in a book page...love!

Sweetness

I love a good spring plaid, and stumbled across this adorable shirtdress from Toast. Trends from every retailer are showcasing the new shirtdress, and Toast got this trend right. I also love the little suede bootie for Spring!!
